Karen Lee, head photographer

My name is Karen Lee. I’m the founder of BDE (Best Days Ever) Photography and its lead photographer. I’m passionate about capturing the magic of childhood and the bonds between people.

School portrait photography brings together two things that I especially love: creating art (in addition to taking photos, I’m a classical pianist), and contributing to the joy and healthy development of kids (I’m a mother of four, and a former elementary school teacher).

This work came out of the joy I feel in capturing authentic moments, but also out of a frustration that almost all parents have felt before: the annual ritual of getting the kids ready for picture day then feeling conflicted about ordering photos that look stiff or awkward. I often couldn’t see any personality in front of the lens — or behind it.

I created this business to invite and capture connections. This begins by being attentive to the needs of school staff and parents and culminates in the brief but magical moment I have with each child — seeing and capturing the genuine person that their loved ones see and want to remember.
